Why Planning Early Makes All the Difference.

There’s something special about family vacations.

It’s not just about the destination it’s the memories you create along the way. The early morning airport excitement, kids picking their seats on the plane, grandparents laughing at dinner, and those small moments that turn into stories you talk about for years.

Family trips bring everyone together in a way everyday life simply can’t.

But if you’ve ever tried planning a vacation for multiple people, you already know one thing: waiting until the last minute can turn excitement into stress fast.

That’s why planning early is one of the smartest moves you can make.

More Choices, Less Stress

When you start planning ahead, you have options.

  • More flight times.
  • Better hotel rooms.
  • Kid-friendly resorts still available.
  • And excursions that aren’t already sold out.

Families often need larger rooms, connecting suites, or specific amenities like pools, kitchens, or easy beach access. Those room types go quickly especially during school breaks and holidays.

Booking early means you get what you actually want, not just what’s left.

Better Pricing for Your Budget

Travel prices rarely go down as dates get closer especially for families.

Flights, resorts, and cruises tend to increase as demand rises. Planning early gives you access to:

  • Early booking discounts
  • Payment plans
  • Lower deposits
  • More time to budget comfortably

Instead of paying everything at once, you can spread payments out and make your dream trip feel much more manageable.

Time to Prepare (Without the Rush)

Family travel involves more moving parts:

  • Coordinating schedules
  • Requesting time off work
  • School calendars
  • Passports or REAL IDs
  • Special needs or activities

When you plan ahead, you’re not scrambling the week before departure trying to figure everything out.

You actually get to enjoy the anticipation counting down the days together, shopping for travel outfits, and talking about what everyone is most excited to do.

That’s part of the fun too.

More Meaningful Experiences

Early planning also allows you to be intentional.

Maybe it’s a spring break cruise, a summer theme park adventure, a multigenerational beach trip, or your first international vacation together.

When you have time, you can choose experiences that truly fit your family’s personality not just whatever is available last minute.

Because the best family vacations aren’t rushed… they’re thoughtfully planned.

Let’s Start Planning

REAL ID & the New TSA Fee

Travel planning means thinking ahead especially when it comes to documentation. Beginning February 1, 2026, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is implementing a new policy that could affect anyone flying within the United States who does not have an acceptable form of identification.

Under the updated procedure, passengers who arrive at airport security without a REAL ID-compliant license or another TSA-accepted form of ID will be offered an optional identity verification process called TSA Confirm.ID. That option comes with a nonrefundable $45 fee if you still want to fly.

This new step reflects a shift from the earlier era when enhanced screening was available without dedicated cost recovery. The fee is intended to cover the costs of using an alternative identity verification system for travelers who are not presenting standard compliant IDs at the checkpoint.

Why This Matters for Travelers

Before February 1, 2026, nearly all travelers already use an acceptable ID such as a REAL ID or passport at airport security checkpoints. Only a small percentage of flyers were using enhanced screening methods.

Now, if you attempt to go through security with an ID that isn’t REAL ID compliant such as a standard state driver’s license without the REAL ID star you will be directed to the Confirm.ID process. In practical terms, that means:

  • You can still fly by completing the Confirm.ID process and paying the $45 fee.
  • That fee covers a 10-day travel period, meaning if you plan multiple flights during that window, the confirmation remains valid.
  • TSA Confirm.ID may take additional time at security often up to 30 minutes or longer for processing and verification.
  • Payment can be made online before your trip or at the airport at designated TSA Confirm.ID locations.
  • Simply having this receipt does not guarantee verification; if TSA cannot verify a traveler’s identity, they may be denied access to the security line.

What Counts as an Acceptable ID

If you do not want to pay the fee or face delays, you can still travel without additional cost by presenting one of the following at airport security:

  • A REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state ID (identified by a star)
  • A U.S. passport or passport card
  • DHS trusted traveler cards (like Global Entry, SENTRI, NEXUS, FAST)
  • U.S. Department of Defense ID
  • Permanent resident card or other DHS-approved identification

Passport holders and travelers with acceptable IDs will not be charged the $45 fee and will proceed through checkpoints normally.

How to Avoid the Fee and Stress

  1. Check Your ID Before You Book
Before booking a flight especially for 2026 travel double-check that your ID is REAL ID-compliant.
  2. Upgrade Early if Needed
If your state ID is not yet REAL ID-compliant, schedule an appointment with your local DMV to submit required documents and upgrade.
  3. Carry Your Passport
A valid U.S. passport is always an accepted form of ID and avoids both the fee and extra processing.
  4. Plan Extra Time at the Airport
If you must use Confirm.ID, allow more time at security to complete the verification and avoid missed flights.

Final Thoughts

This change serves as a reminder that travel requirements can evolve and being prepared helps keep your trip smooth from start to finish. While the $45 fee option gives travelers a fallback if they forget or don’t have compliant ID, the easiest way to avoid extra costs and delays is to ensure your identification meets federal standards before you head to the airport.

Strength Beyond the Earthquake

January 12, 2010 marked a moment that changed Haiti forever. In a matter of seconds, an earthquake reshaped lives, families, and communities. For many, the loss is still deeply felt today.

But Haiti’s story did not end that day.

What followed was not only grief, but courage. Not only pain, but perseverance. Haitians around the world stood together, proving that even in the darkest moments, hope can survive.

Today, we remember those who were lost. We honor those who continue to carry their memory forward. And we recognize the strength of a people who refuse to be defined only by tragedy.

Haiti is art.
Haiti is music.
Haiti is faith.
Haiti is a culture rich with history, pride, and beauty.

Let us speak of Haiti with respect. Let us remember with compassion. And let us honor its people not only for what they endured but for how they continue to rise.

Hire A Travel Agent

Sure, you can book your vacation on your own terms since we have so many options nowadays with the internet. You can compare multiple websites for flights, hotels, Airbnb, and fun activities that are location specific to where you are going.

But…you can run into some issues that you may not even think about or think you are getting the best deal possible.

With the everyday life madness and just the thought of planning of trip can sound like a lot of work that may not encourage you to actually book a vacation with your friends or family.

Do you really understand why you should book your vacation with a travel agent?

Here are three quick things that you may have not thought about when it comes to booking travel arrangements and why hiring a travel agent will be beneficial for you.

Reason 1 – Travel Agents will read all of the FINE little print for your flight and hotel reservations. Know when are you supposed to check-in for your flight so you can get the best seat possible without any extra fees, be at the airport with enough time to get through security, check-in and check out times of the hotel, and other small print fees that you might miss out on.

A travel agent will give you all the important details that you must know, so you know when and where you have to be. All you have to do is focus on getting there on time.

Reason 2 – Travel Agents know what to do if you miss your flight or connecting flight
Sometimes there are things that you can’t just control such as weather delays or traffic that can cause you to miss a flight. Don’t get stuck at the airport or worse pay MORE to change your flight to help you get where you need to be. I can help rearrange flights if this happens to you, so you don’t miss any more time of your precious vacation time.

Reason 3 – Travel Agents will buy trip protection for your trip If you aren’t able to make it for whatever reason since you are booking months in advance, a travel agent will make sure that you get a full refund. This is the beauty of trip protection because again you can’t control life and things happen. Plans change and that’s okay. A travel agent will help you get your money back.

Those are the things that a true travel agent professional such as myself can handle for you. As a professional travel agent, I can do all the heavy lifting. I can help take the stress away by planning, organizing, comparing prices for flights and hotel accommodations, and booking your trip for you. Turn Long Weekends into Dream Vacations

If you’ve been promising yourself more travel in 2026, here’s your sign to make it happen. One of the smartest ways to explore more without using all your paid time off is by planning around federal holidays. With just a few extra vacation days here and there, you can turn long weekends into full getaways giving yourself more time to relax, recharge, and make memories.

Why Federal Holidays Are Your Secret Travel Weapon

Most of us get at least 10 federal holidays off each year. That’s 10 built-in chances to rest, reconnect, and explore new destinations. When you plan ahead and strategically add a vacation day or two around those dates, you can create extended mini-trips or even full week-long escapes without eating up your entire PTO balance.

For example:

  • Take Friday, January 2 off after New Year’s Day and enjoy a 4-day winter retreat.
  • Use one vacation day after Memorial Day (May 25) to make it a 4-day beach getaway.
  • Or stretch Thanksgiving week into a 9-day trip with only three vacation days.

The 2026 Federal Holidays

Here’s a quick look at the U.S. Federal Holidays for 2026. Use this list to start mapping out your vacation calendar early the earlier you plan, the better your flight deals and hotel rates will be.

Summer (Jul–Sep): Plan a national park adventure or a family road trip. With holidays like Independence Day and Labor Day, you can enjoy longer summer escapes.
Fall (Oct–Dec): Use Columbus Day or Thanksgiving to enjoy cozy mountain getaways or an early winter city break.

Tips for Maximizing Your Time Off

  1. Plan Early: The best deals and availability go fast around holiday weekends.
  2. Mix Remote Work and Travel: If your job allows, work remotely for a few days before or after your trip.
  3. Book Smart: Fly out on Thursday night or early Friday and return Monday evening to stretch your time.
  4. Travel Off-Peak: Choose destinations that are less crowded or in their shoulder season to save money.

Don’t Forget to Actually Take the Time Off

Too many people let their vacation days go unused each year don’t be one of them. Taking time away from work isn’t just fun; it’s essential for your mental health, creativity, and overall happiness. Whether you plan a full-blown vacation or a simple weekend staycation, make 2026 the year you prioritize rest and exploration.

Passport Renewal

As the government shutdown continues, travelers may experience longer processing times for passport renewals and new applications. If you’re planning an international trip in 2026, now is the perfect time to check your passport’s expiration date and start the renewal process early.

Why This Matters

During a shutdown, passport offices may face delays due to reduced staffing or limited services. What usually takes 8–11 weeks for standard processing could take much longer and that delay could affect your travel plans if you wait too long to renew.

It’s important to remember that many countries require your passport to be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. That means if your passport expires before June 2026, you’ll want to renew it as soon as possible even if your trip is months away.

What You Should Do Now

  1. Check Your Expiration Date:
Open your passport and check the expiration date today. If it expires anytime within the next 9–12 months, it’s time to renew.
  2. Apply Early:
Passport renewal and new applications can take longer than usual during government shutdowns. Start early ideally 3 to 6 months before your trip to avoid last-minute stress.
  3. Use Expedited Service (If Needed):
If you’re traveling soon, consider expedited passport services through the U.S. State Department or an authorized passport agency. There’s an extra fee, but it can save your trip.
  4. Keep Kids’ Passports Updated:
Child passports are only valid for 5 years, not 10. Double-check your children’s documents too if you’re planning a family vacation abroad.

Final Tip

Your passport is your key to the world don’t let expiration dates or delays stand in your way. Check it now, renew early, and get ready to make 2026 your best travel year yet.

Why You Should Arrive Early for Your Flight

If you’re planning to travel soon, here’s an important heads-up: due to the ongoing government shutdown, travelers across the U.S. are reporting longer wait times at TSA checkpoints. With fewer staff on duty and heavier passenger volumes during peak travel times, it’s essential to plan ahead and give yourself extra time at the airport.

What’s Happening

During a government shutdown, some federal employees including TSA officers may be working without pay or on limited schedules. This often results in slower security processing, longer lines, and potential delays at major airports.

Even if your flight is on time, getting through check-in and security might take longer than usual, especially during early morning and evening hours when travel traffic is heaviest.

What Travelers Should Do

To make your trip as smooth as possible, here are a few steps to help you navigate the current situation with ease:

  1. Arrive Early:
Get to the airport at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. This buffer gives you plenty of time to check in, go through security, and grab a coffee before boarding.
  2. Use TSA PreCheck or CLEAR:
If you travel often, consider enrolling in TSA PreCheck or CLEAR. These programs allow for faster screening and shorter lines, saving you valuable time (and reducing stress).
  3. Check Airport and Airline Updates:
Many airports post real-time security wait times on their websites or apps. Checking before you leave home can help you plan accordingly.
  4. Pack Smart:
Make sure your liquids, electronics, and travel documents are organized and easily accessible. The quicker you move through security, the less time you’ll spend in line.
  5. Stay Patient and Positive:
Remember, TSA officers and airport staff are doing their best to keep travelers safe. A little patience and kindness go a long way during busy travel periods.

How to Make the Most of Extra Time at the Airport

If you end up with time to spare, turn it into an opportunity to start your vacation early. Enjoy a meal, read a book, or simply relax before your flight. Many airports now offer lounges, spas, and quiet zones for travelers who arrive early.

Final Thoughts

While the shutdown continues, the best thing travelers can do is plan ahead and arrive early. Giving yourself extra time not only reduces stress but also ensures you don’t miss your flight due to unexpected delays.

At Charm Travel, we’re committed to keeping our clients informed and prepared. Whether it’s navigating travel disruptions or finding the best vacation deals, we’re here to help make your journey as smooth as possible.
