Paella
You’ve probably heard of Paella and honestly, it’s one of the best things to eat if you are a seafood lover! Paella is an iconic rice and seafood Spaniard dish. It is definitely one of those dishes that hits the spot and can keep you full for a long time. Some places will replace the seafood meat portion to regular meat. Traditionally, Paella is served for special occasions, but you can still find some to eat.

La Bamba
The most iconic tapas dishes that can be found in Barcelona are called the “la bomba” ( the bomb in English).

The best way for us to describe what it is, it essentially a tennis ball-sized potato croquette. It is often served with two different sauces: a white garlic allioli that represents the string fuse that the anarchists would light before launching their grenades and a rich and spicy red sauce that represents the bombs’ explosive qualities.

Not only are they delicious to eat, but they are an edible piece of Catalan history. “La Bomba” is a must for all foodies in Barcelona! If you don’t eat one then did you really go to Barcelona?!

Pa amb Tomàquet
If you are a picky eater then no worries. There is something simple for you to try too! It’s true what they say: “The simple things are always the best.”

Pa amb Tomàquet means “bread with tomato,” and is a simple yet essential dish that can be paired with every meal from breakfast to lunch and dinner.

The bread is rubbed with garlic and tomato juice, and then it is seasoned with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Some places even serve the ingredients separately so you can make it yourself.

You don’t even have to stop there. You can always add some cheese and meat to it. Then you have yourself a little sandwich. Yum!

Escalivada
Like so many of Spain’s iconic dishes, escalivada is all about showing off the quality of each ingredient.

This dish is made by grilling eggplant and red peppers over an open wood fire. They are often served with toasted bread and olive oil, garlic, and salt. If you’re lucky, you might even get some anchovies too. It’s simple but good!

We hope that you give these dishes a try on your visit to Barcelona. Don’t forget that if you can find those dishes homemade – they taste even better. I am sure we don’t have to remind you of that.

If you try these dishes in Barcelona, then let us know which one was your favorite!

See the World Without Breaking the Bank

Traveling the world doesn’t have to drain your savings. With a bit of planning and smart choices, you can explore new destinations, taste local flavors, and enjoy unforgettable experiences—all without a hefty price tag. Here are some tips for seeing the world on a budget.

      1. Choose Budget-Friendly Destinations

Some places are naturally more affordable than others. Look for countries with favorable exchange rates or lower costs of living, like Thailand, Portugal, Mexico, or Vietnam. In these destinations, you can stretch your money further on everything from food to accommodations.

      2. Affordable Flights

Finding inexpensive flights can make a huge difference in your travel budget. Start with fare comparison tools like Skyscanner, Google Flights, or Hopper, which help you monitor and track flight prices. Being flexible with your travel dates and destinations can also help; mid-week flights are often cheaper than weekend ones. Consider budget airlines and be prepared to travel with only carry-on luggage to save on fees.

      3. Budget Accommodations

Accommodation doesn’t have to mean high-end hotels. Budget-friendly options like hostels, guesthouses, and vacation rentals (such as Airbnb) can offer comfort and convenience without a large price tag. For a unique experience, consider options like couchsurfing, where locals offer a free place to stay. Traveling with friends? Split the cost of a vacation rental for more space and savings.

      4. Public Transportation

Skip the taxis and rental cars; public transportation is typically the most affordable way to get around. Many cities have excellent metro, bus, or tram networks that allow you to explore efficiently and economically. In Europe, budget-friendly trains connect popular cities, and in Asia, you’ll find affordable intercity buses. Walking and biking are also great (and free) ways to explore a city.

      5. Eat Local

Dining out for every meal can quickly add up. Opt for street food and local eateries instead of pricier tourist spots to get an authentic taste of your destination at a fraction of the cost. In some cities, visiting local markets to grab fresh produce and snacks is a fun, affordable, and delicious way to experience the area’s food culture. If you’re staying somewhere with a kitchen, consider cooking some meals to save even more.

      6. Travel the Off-Season

Prices for flights, accommodations, and attractions can drop significantly during the off-season. If you’re willing to avoid peak travel months, you’ll likely find better deals and enjoy a quieter, more relaxed experience. Plus, off-season travel often means you’ll get to experience a destination more like a local than a tourist.

      7. Free Attractions and Events

Many destinations offer a variety of free things to do. Research free museum days, parks, cultural sites, and public events. City tourism websites often provide calendars of events, some of which are free or have a low entrance fee. Walking tours and self-guided tours are also great ways to explore while sticking to your budget.

      8. Plan Your Itinerary and Set a Daily Budget

Having a daily budget can help keep you mindful of spending. Research your destination and estimate daily expenses for food, transportation, and activities. Planning ahead means fewer surprise expenses, but be flexible enough to make room for the unexpected—sometimes, the best experiences are unplanned.

      9. Currency Exchange

Avoid exchanging large amounts of cash at airports, where rates are typically unfavorable. Look for local ATMs or use credit and debit cards with minimal foreign transaction fees. Before you go, inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid unnecessary fees or account freezes.

Seeing the world doesn’t require an extravagant budget—only a bit of planning and creativity. By making smart choices and prioritizing experiences over luxuries, you can create lifelong memories on a budget. So go ahead, plan your next adventure, and see how far your budget can take you!
